I remember my mother telling me a story of when Jimmy was a kid, he'd be at the top of the stairs and throw shoes at our grandpa Colvin. It was just a goofy thing that they had as their own little thing of Jimmy yelling for grandpa to come up stairs and so he'd go, with Jimmy picking up shoes to throw at him for the fun of it. Grandpa Colvin would have been mighty proud of Jimmy for his service and I think James turned out a lot like our grandfather. I imagine that waiting for him at the pearly gates was Grandpa Colvin giving a salute and Grandma Colvin giving Jimmy just all of the hugs and kisses that she could. He's home now and at peace. I thank God for that and hope that the rest of our family can smile at the fact that Jimmy is in a better place.

Thank you for your service Sergeant James Wotherspoon. You were more than just my cousin, but a brother to my mother and an uncle to me. I'll miss you greatly.

I am so deeply saddened by the loss of James!! He will be deeply missed by my family! We always enjoyed the times when he and Jory would spend time at our house while he was on leave!! I have a lifetime of memories.....one being when I attempted to teach him how to drive. That wasn't our finest hour! He definitely was a prankster from a very early age and he seemed to thoroughly enjoy the many pranks he pulled on me! My deepest condolences go out to Jennifer, Christopher, Jory and his mom, Debbie!! Each of you are in my prayers! Love and hugs always!! Aunt Kathie

The fondest memory I have of Spoon was his cat calendar that he had by his desk.  He was on of the finest Soldiers that I had the opportunity to serve with.

I’m so sorry Jennifer and Christopher. I am here for you both always.

I remember when spoon first came to Cco. 3/69Armor. We served together in headquarters platoon.  He was a character I’ll never forget.  Good man, good soldier.
