

Lee Elgin Woodward, long-time resident of Widefield, Colorado, passed away on August 26, 2015, at the age of 77. Lee was born in Ridgeway, Missouri, on February 12, 1938, to Elgin Burl Woodward and Docia Helen (Harper) Woodward. He joined the Army Reserves at age 17 during his Junior year of High School. He served six months active duty in basic training, three years active Army Reserves, and was honorably discharged. Lee married the love of his life, Nina June (Craig) Woodward, in 1956, and they moved to Albany, Missouri. In 1963, the couple moved to Loveland, Colorado, and Lee obtained his degree in Accounting and Business at the Greeley Commercial College. In 1969, after working for Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Lee, Nina, and their young daughter moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where Lee started and managed the bookstore at what is now Pikes Peak Community College. He retired from Pikes Peak Community College in 1988.
Lee served in numerous positions in the church, including Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon, Elder, Trustee, and Chairman of the Board. Many of these positions were held at the Security Christian Church, which is now Pikes Peak Christian Church. He was a member of the Cheyenne Mountain Lion’s Club for 12 years, where he served as President and Trustee, and also belonged to the American Bookseller’s Association, the American Legion, and the Sierra Club.
Mr. Woodward was preceded in death by his father, Elgin Burl Woodward, and his mother, Docia Helen Woodward. He is survived by his wife, Nina; daughter, Lucinda “Cindy” June Woodward Maddox (David); and son, Roger Lee Woodward; as well as his grandson, Aaron David Woodward Maddox; granddaughter, Elizabeth “Lizzie” June Maddox; sisters, Lorene Helen (Woodward) Bridges (Donald), Marilyn Jean (Woodward) Bain (Jack); and many nieces and nephews.
Lee never met a person he didn’t call “friend,” and was likewise loved by all who knew him. He was generous, selfless, fun-loving, and the backbone of his family. He will be greatly missed. Visitation will be Sunday August 30, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00pm. A funeral service is planned to be held at Dove-Witt Mortuary, located at 6630 South U.S. Highway 85-87, Fountain, Colorado, on Monday, August 31, 2015, at 11:30 a.m. A reception and interment will follow at Crystal Valley Cemetery in Manitou Springs, Colorado.
