Simone V. Smith

Simone Victorine Marie-Louise Smith, 87, of Colorado Springs passed away March 3, 2017 surrounded by her family. Preceded in death by her husband, Charles Conrad, her father Robert Emille, and mother, Armande Victorine Bourgoin. Simone is Survived by her children: Dominique (Christina), Jean-Francois, Carrine (Michael) Johnson, James (Susan), Jean-Pierre (Julie), Armande (Tim), and Jennifer (Brett) Hotz; 15 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and 3 sisters-in-law: Dot, Frances and Laura.

Simone was born in Clery Saint Andre, France April 14, 1929. Her ambitions were to be a hairdresser and mother. Simone married Charles Conrad on Feb 11, 1961 in Orleans, Loiret, France beginning her life’s journey as both a mother and a military wife taking her and the family across the world from Orleans, France; Fort Meade, Maryland, to Germany. Upon Charles’ retirement, the family settled in Colorado Springs. In addition to her duties as a military wife and mother, Simone held various jobs, including working in her uncle’s restaurant, being a maid, a store clerk for the Post Exchange where Elvis had the pleasure of meeting her, an old school military switchboard operator, short order cook for Post Exchange Cafeteria, and most importantly “Mère incroyable” and “La mère supérieure”. On Sunday mornings, one could find Simone and Charles in the kitchen happily creating 5 course meals to be enjoyed later by family and friends. Simone was ever giving of herself making sure that family and friends were never hungry or without clothing. She enjoyed playing bingo on the weekends with friends and was always on the lookout for that lucky number. During her retirement years, she enjoyed traveling to such places as Japan, Belgium, and France. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren and going to their events where she was often found in the stands cheering them on whether it be for sports or other activities. She also loved having her home filled with family and friends, never missing an opportunity to host family gatherings, especially during the holidays.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2017 from 5pm to 8pm at Dove-Witt Family Mortuary. 6630 S. US Hwy 85/87 Fountain, CO 80817.

Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 17, 2017 at 1pm at Dove-Witt Family Mortuary. 6630 S. US Hwy 85/87 Fountain, CO 80817.

Burial to follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
