Thomas “Tommy” Anthony Edmonds
April 15, 1968 – October 8, 2010
Thomas “Tommy” Anthony Edmonds, 42, beloved husband, son, brother, uncle and friend was called home to be with our Lord on October 8, 2010 at his home in Widefield, Colorado after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was a Catholic.
Tommy was born April 15, 1968 to Gwendolyn Brandt Edmonds in Fort
Stewart, GA. His family moved to the Colorado Springs area when he was
very young. He attended Harrison High School in Colorado Springs.
He was married to Sandra Elisabeth Polk on April 20, 2002 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Security and was instantly embraced as a member of her family, all of whom thought the world of him, and he, of them.
Tommy was a truck driver, contracted with Met Inc. since January. He
worked many years in the trucking industry and often joked that he was a transportation engineer. He loved being behind the wheel. He was also
previously employed at Pavestone in Fountain.
Over the years he delivered fireworks for big shows at PPIR, Fort Carson, and the Air Force Academy.
He loved everybody and everyone who met Tommy loved him, too. The only
stranger to him was a friend he had not met yet. He was always willing to help others, no matter the time or place. He helped fix sprinklers, cars- whatever he could do. Anything they needed, he was there.
First and foremost he loved spending time with his family and friends.
He liked Harley Davidsons and trains, and enjoyed decorating for holidays – especially Halloween and Christmas- with his wife, Sandy. His nieces and nephews were always there to help, too.
Tommy was an avid Denver Broncos fan, and the family encourages all who plan to attend the memorial service Friday morning to wear their Broncos colors to help celebrate what brought Tommy so much enjoyment.
Tommy is survived by his wife, Sandra (“Sandy”); a brother, Paul, and
nieces Kortney and Kara, of Colorado Springs; his mother-in-law Maria
Polk of Widefield; brother-in-law David Polk (and his wife, Laurie) of
Colorado Springs and their children, Whitney, Spencer, Bryan, Weston and Ashley; sister-in-law Pat Gallob and her son, Connor of Widefield;
brother-in-law, Stephen, (and his wife, Angela) of Security, and their
children Timothy, Aaron, Isabelle, Jasmine, Trinity, Breanna, Corynn,
James and Samuel; and a Godson, Luke Baker.
He is also survived by his best friend, Tom Aguero; a very dear friend
Paulette Caraway; and his beloved dogs Chaos, Lucy, Gateway and Rosco
who brought so much joy to his days.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Irma M. and Lambert J.
Brandt; his mother, Gwendolyn; his father in law, Willie (Bill) Polk, a
brother-in-law, Aaron Gallob; “Oma” Lena Bleistein and two of his dogs,
Chiquito and Jake.
Visitation will be Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at Dove Witt Family Mortuary, 6630 S. Highway 85/87 in Fountain.
A Memorial mass officiated by Father Bill Carmody will be Friday at 10
a.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 5354 S. Highway 85/87. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs.
Pallbearers will be David, Stephen and Bryan Polk, Spencer and Weston
Allenback and Tom Aguero.
Honorary pallbearers are Connor Gallob, Timothy and Aaron Polk, and James and Samuel McAffee.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Family Fund for Tom Edmonds at any ENT Federal Credit Union, to Account # 537685.
Memorial arrangements are being handled by Dove Witt Family Mortuary.
His family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to all who supported fundraising efforts the last few months – from the bake sales and car wash to the spaghetti dinner, pig roast, Schwan’s truckload sale, including the El Paso County & Fountain Valley Advertiser and News.
The bus trip to Cripple Creek that was scheduled this Sunday is going to be rescheduled at a later date.
