Virginia Ann was born on Oct 03, 1950, in Pueblo, Colorado to Betty A. and Robert W. Walls. Virginia was the older of two children, along with her sister Dorothy Feister. Growing up in Pueblo, she loved to play music, read, and cruise the town with her friends and family. As a child she enjoyed movies and going to the Theatre. She graduated from South High School in 1968. She then graduated from Southern Colorado State College (now CSU-Pueblo) in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in music education.
Just after college, Virginia moved to Colorado Springs where met Carl Patrick Kastl, of Mattoon, Illinois 1975. Pat was stationed at the Air Force Academy and the two were married in 1976. After they married they lived in Indiana, Pueblo, and finally returned to Colorado Springs to settle down where they raised 2 sons, Shawn and Chris.
Virginia made a career as a substitute teacher in 5 different school districts and offered private piano lessons to children in the community out of their family home. She held long term positions at Fountain-Fort Carson High School and the Colorado Springs School, but the majority of her 20+ years of teaching experience was as a substitute teacher. This allowed her to touch the lives of hundreds of students each year. Her biggest joy in life was teaching children and she excelled at it. She retired from teaching in 2016.
Virginia loved spending time with her children, her grandson, Seth, and her family. She was an animal lover and enjoyed the company of her dogs, visiting her sister’s ranch, and taking trips to all 3 zoos in Colorado. She was a supportive and active member of her sons’ lives by sponsoring them in Boy Scouts, DeMolay, Band, Science Olympiad, and the Fountain Valley Youth Baseball League. She was also an active member of the PTO for Webster Elementary.
Virginia A. Kastl is survived by her husband, Carl “Pat” Kastl, sister Dorothy Feister (Dennis) of Aguilar, CO; son, Shawn Kastl (Sommer) and grandson Seth Kastl of Loveland, CO and son, Christopher Kastl (Evelyn) of Alamosa, CO. She is preceded in passing by her father Robert and her mother Betty (Thompson) Walls.
