Yoko was born in Kure City in the Hiroshima Prefecture of Japan in 1928, the second of five children of Sakan and Koo Sakamoto. She met her husband, Marvin Kellner, while working in the medical supply unit at Camp Otsu, Japan. They were married in 1956 and came to the U.S the following year when Marvin was assigned to Ft. Carson.
A devoted mother and friend, Yoko was passionate about her children’s – and later her grandchildren’s – education. She was an exceptional seamstress and very adept at crocheting, knitting, and other crafts. She enjoyed gardening and yard work and could be seen mowing her yard into her 80s. A devout Catholic, Yoko was a member of the Altar Society at Holy Family Catholic Church and had volunteered at the Perpetual Adoration Chapel there and then at St. Dominic’s.
Yoko was preceded in death by Marvin, her loving husband of 38 years. Left to honor and remember Yoko are her two children, Cathrine Santini and Douglas Kellner; three grandchildren, Keenan Moore, Karl Moore, and Nicholas Kellner; and four great-grandchildren.
