Barbara was born on May 11, 1974 to her loving mother Anne Litane Bazelais and father Roosevelt Bazelais in Port au Prince, Haiti. Barbara was born into a big family full of aunts, uncles, cousins and the head of the family grandmother Marie Cecilia Abraham. Barbara’s parents had lucrative business in Haiti and a few years later, Barbara’s sister Paula and brother Marc were born. Barbara was a very obedient, helpful child and at the age of 12, the family moved to America in the hopes of better opportunities. The Bazelais family settled in Brooklyn, New York. Luckily many of Barbara’s extended family also immigrated to New York during the 1980’s.
Living in Brooklyn was full of fun times including attending Catholic church service, family parties, weekend trips to Coney Island and Prospect Park. With many older and younger cousins there was always someone to play with. Barbara was a tomboy. She played rough and was not afraid of anyone. Barbara was small in stature but scrappy. While living in New York Barbara’s youngest sibling Jerry was born. Barbara promised to always care for Jerry and their bond was instantaneous. She took her big sister duties very seriously including cooking, cleaning and watching her younger siblings while her parents work long and often late-night shifts. Barbara attended Walt Whitman Junior high school and bullies made fun of her for being different. The family legend is the bullies threatened to beat Barbara up. So, the next day, she went to school with hot pepper and sprayed it in the bullies’ eyes. Even as a child Barbara stood up for herself and displayed a huge amount of strength and fearlessness. The bullies left Barbara alone and she continued her education.
She attended Washington Irving High School in Manhattan. Followed by Hunter College where she met her soul mate and true love Michael Warren and many great friends. Barbara’s marriage was blessed with two beautiful daughters Olivia Annabella Warren, and Mattie Isabella Warren. Barbara’s love for family really demonstrates what a loving heart Barbara possessed.
She is survived by her loving husband, Michael Warren; two daughters, Olivia Annabella Warren, and Mattie Isabella Warren; her mother Anne Litane Bazelais; two brothers, Jerry Bazelais and Mark Bazelais; and sister, Paula Bazelais.
