

Craig Alan Slaughter was 71 when he passed away on Friday, December 23, 2016 in his home at Fredericksburg, Virginia. Rocky River, Ohio, was his hometown; there he spent his childhood and youth. He graduated from Nardonia High School and attended Kent State University. He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps and bravely served his country during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed sharing anecdotes of his life. He loved poetry, and tried his hand at it. In fact, he wrote an original poem in memory of his first grandson, Lane, titled “After Words.” He enjoyed fishing trips with his daughter and grandson. He spoke of cherished moments ice skating with his brother and sister, and swimming in the Rocky River. He was an avid boater and enjoyed yachting. He reminisced frequently about the great times he had as a child at his aunt Maxine’s farm house.
He was a loving husband, father, and proud grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Slaughter; daughter, Candice Slaughter; grandson, Bailey Slaughter; sister, Marna Pellow; brother, Malcolm Slaughter; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Lorean.
He is preceded in death by his father, Chester Slaughter; his mother, Pearl E. Smith; and his grandson, Lane A. Prock.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at 12:30 pm at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, with the family receiving friends an hour prior to service. Interment will follow in Quantico National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the Quantico Young Marines, Quantico Paymaster, 98 Wilderness Ln., Fredericksburg, VA 22401; or Marine Corps League, Mickey Finn Detachment, 18736 Fuller Heights Rd, Triangle, VA 22172.
