It is with deep sorrow that I share the news of the passing of my beloved Mom, Doris Pohwala, who entered eternal life on 30 July 2025.
Born in Suva, Fiji and raised in Fiji, England, and the United States, she came to call the San Francisco Bay Area her home in 1960. After 55 years in the Bay Area, she chose to spend the last decade of her life with her beloved Husband, Dean, in Northern Virginia watching their two granddaughters grow up. She was a woman shaped by a life full of diversity of cultures, religions, and customs which helped to define her as a person that embraced everyone from everywhere. She had a unique gift for finding friends anywhere she went and built friendships in every community which always became like family.
After graduating from San Francisco State University she embarked on what would become a two decade career as a Registered Nurse. Throughout her youth and into her young adulthood she discerned a call to the Catholic sisterhood which was unexpectedly interrupted by a skinny poor Zoroastrian Parsi in 1977. She then spent the next 48 years investing herself into making a family that was rich with beautiful memories and grand adventures while leaving an enduring legacy of unconditional love in every life she touched. Over the course of 81 years she raised her children, traveled the world exploring over 50 countries, flew high as a private pilot, shot straight as a pistol marksman, and nursed patients from Hospitals to Homes.
She truly lived an extraordinary life and though her song has ended, her melody shall linger on. Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure. She is loved beyond words and shall be missed beyond measure. Our family while devastated by her passing, find comfort knowing she is reunited with her parents and five brothers.
We ask you to keep my Dad, her granddaughters, and her family and friends, all who were touched by her love, in your prayers.
