
Dorothy Watson “Dot” Goumas, 95, of Goshen, N.Y., formerly of McLean and Fredericksburg, entered into rest on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2015, at Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern, N.Y., with family at her side.
Dorothy was born on Sept. 4, 1919, in Grovania, Ga., the daughter of the late Grover Cleveland Watson and the late Willie Maude Scarborough Watson. She was the widow of Dr. Marcus Peter Goumas.
Dorothy earned her RN at Ogelthorpe School of Nursing in Atlanta. She practiced in Georgia, Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia.
She was an active member of Charles Wesley United Methodist Church in McLean and worked with the League of Women Voters in Northern Virginia.
Dot loved her family and friends, always enjoying a good story, a laugh and a party with dancing and music. She enjoyed organizing and getting things done, earning her the title of “Sarg.” Her thick, sweet southern accent will be missed by all.
She is survived by her two sons, Dr. William Marcus Goumas and wife Kathryn Olore of Goshen and Robert Peter Goumas and wife Sharon of Chesapeake; sisters Jacqueline Umphries and Sybil Castellaw; and five grandchildren, Andrew, Peter, William, Bailey and Lathan Goumas.
She was predeceased by her brother, Scarborough Watson; and sisters Melba Allen, Marjorie Hickson and Cookie Varner.
Visitation will be held at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Home, Fredericksburgh, on Monday, Aug. 24, from 11 a.m. to noon, with the funeral beginning at noon, immediately following the visitation.
Burial will be at National Memorial Park Cemetery, Falls Church.
