Edith C. Payne

She was born on March 2, 1942 in Midland, VA the daughter of the late Jesse C. and Elaine (Cropp) Cook. She worked many years for the G & H Manufacturing Company. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed crafts, reading, and playing electronic solitaire.

Survivors include her loving husband, Linwood E. Payne, Jr of Fredericksburg, VA; one son, Linwood E. (Tuck) Payne (Theresa) of Fredericksburg, VA; two grandchildren, Dylan Payne (Samantha) of Richmond, VA, Lindsay Leach (Johnny) of Fredericksburg, VA; two brothers, Howard Cook and William Cook (Brenda) both of Fredericksburg, VA; two sisters, Virginia Myers (Tommy) and Patricia Monteith both of Fredericksburg, VA. She also had 4 great grandchildren whom she loved dearly: Kinsey, Tucker, Emerson and Liam.

The family would like to thank the nurses at Carriage Hill and the Mary Washington Hospice Team for their gracious and compassionate care of Edith.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at 10:00am at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 3702 Loren Drive, Fredericksburg, VA 22408. Following the service, a reception will be held at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, 1621 Emancipation Highway, Fredericksburg, VA.
