

Frederic, known by most as Freddie was born in Maryland on April 16, 1934. He joined the Marine Corps at the age of 17 and spent four years enlisted. Upon his discharge he came back to Stafford, Virginia. Fred worked for the ABC board until he retired at the age of 55. He was an Honorary Member of American Legion Post 290. He was Commander of the Post on numerous occasions. He was also the leader of the Department of Virginia Guard of Honor Unit 4 where his knowledge and leadership has touched the hearts of all the members. Fred was a Past District Commander and Past Department Sgt at Arms. He was also known as the old man who yelled at people for misbehaving while at his long-time enjoyment the American Legion Sports Complex. Freddie volunteered with others to plan the development of the ballfields. Since 1988 Fred maintained the fields cutting grass, raking the fields and running the snack bar. He touched many hearts and made plenty of friends within the community through his devotion to the ballfields and the Legion. He is going to be missed by all.
Fred was preceded in death by the love of his life Shirley. They were married for 41 years. He is survived by his three children Shirley McLaughlin (Dan) Bruce Miller (Norka) and Rosalyn Stein (Dave). Grandchildren Danny (Bo) McLaughlin (Adrianna) Nicole Ward (Drake), Brittany LaBossier (Kevin), Hunter Miller (Sarah), Shannon Fishel (Dawson). Great Grandchildren Oliver Ward, Mara McLaughlin and Daniel Mclaughlin and Oakley Fishel.
The family will have a gathering of Family and Friends on May 21, 2023 at the American Legion Post 290 1141 Mountainview Rd Fredericksburg at 1pm until 3 pm. With the Legion Ceremony at 2pm His burial will be at Aquia Cemetery with Family. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the American Legion Sports Complex at Stafford American Legion Sports Complex P.O. Box 125 Stafford Virginia 22555.
