He was a 1944 graduate of Falmouth High School and a long time member of Hartwood Presbyterian Church. He was a US Army veteran of WWII.
He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Abbott Monroe; three children, Peter Monroe of Bethesda, MD, Lauren Hatten and husband Frank of Potomac, MD, and Robin Bowman Hoopes and husband Spencer of Bethesda, MD; daughter-in-law, Carla Monroe of Holly Springs, NC; and seven grandchildren, Ben, Kyle, and Morgan Hatten, Tyson Bowman, and Olivia, Truman, and Tucker Monroe.
He was preceded in death by his son, Scott Monroe.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at Hartwood Presbyterian Church at 11:30 AM, with the family receiving friends an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in his name to the Montgomery Hospice, 1355 Piccard Dr., Suite 100, Rockville, MD., 20850.
