

James C. Perry, PhD. (Jim) , 75, of Spotsylvania, Va. passed away Monday, January 10,2011. Jim was the son of Cornelius James Perry and Mary Frances Gregory both of Louisville, Kentucky. After high school, Jim earned a B.S. degree in Physics, graduating Summa Cum Laude from the University of Louisville, KY. Following his undergraduate studies, Jim served in the US Navy before continuing his higher education in the field of mathematics where he earned an M.S degree in Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin and later a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. His professional career consisted of work as a mathematician at the Navel Research Laboratory in Dahlgren, Virginia; as well as publishing articles in professional journals related to Algebraic Topology. After retirement, Jim volunteered at Porter Library in Stafford, Va. and pursued hobbies such as poetry writing and origami. He also dabbled in theater as well as story telling.
Jim is survived by his wife, Roberta Perry of Spotsylvania,VA, his two daughters- Winifryde (Wendy) Perry-Cash of Washington. D.C. and Mary Laura Richardson of Waynesboro, Pa. ;a son - James Julian Perry of Annandale, Va., two grandchildren- Hannah and Samuel Richardson and two brothers: Anthony Gregory Perry, 72, of Sellerburg, Indiana, and Michael John Perry, LLD.., 65, of Atlanta, Georgia. Jim's loves in life were films, especially Alfred Hitchcock films, hiking Old Rag Mountain and theYMCA, where he was an avid swimmer for years. Jim enjoyed reading, often delving into the Native American spiritual realm. He loved political discourse and a healthy analysis of the social as well as cultural conditions of modern America. He always maintained a healthy dose of skepticism for beauracratic, political and religious institutions of which he often delivered with an insightful sense of humor. Jim was a kind, gentle and non- judgemental man, he had a probing intellect and respect for all of earth's creatures, great and small. He will be greatly missed.
Much appreciation is extended to the caregivers of Home Instead and Hughes Home who enriched Jim's life. Friends and family will gather at Hughes Daycare, 100 Caroline Street, Fredericksburg, Va. on Sunday, January 16, 11 :30 - 3, to remember Jim.
