I know that you have found Uncle Nehemiah and you guys start looking,  Auntie is up there with you and Trey. Keep watching over Purvis,  Jean, and Chuck-!

I, Rosalie Moore loved Joan and Jean and especially mother Flemings. I send by sympathy and my love and prayers for all. 

I just kearned of Joan's passing. It was a joy to know her and her family; as well as working with her at Gunston Middle School back in the day. Rest in peace. Sending prayers and condolences to her family.

The sweetest , funniest and kindest woman I had a pleasure of knowing . I will forever cherish our conversations and jokes we made with eachother . I love you Miss Joan . You rest beautifully Gorgeous and please give Trey the biggest hug and kiss for me . ❤️

I have so many memorable moments that I have shared with Joan, Purvis and the boys,  but  two in particular  sticks  out with me,   they were the  New Year's Eve's that our family shared together as neighbors.  Forgive me for not remembering the years but I have not forgotten.    As we were both new home owners and how our families became such wonderful friends.   To Purvis and the boys, just know that Deb, Marc, and myself have you in our prayers and we know that God will see you though this.  We love you and are here for you.

I thank God for the opportunity to meet the loving Fleming family at Macedonia Baptist Church. I was shocked to hear of Joan's passing. My heartfelt sympathy to the Fleming and Garner families grieving the the loss of their beloved Joan.
We are never prepared for the loss of a loved one, but God is always prepared to help us through that loss. May His presence begin the healing in your heart and soul, and may His love surround you with comfort only He can give.

The Fleming’s and I have been friends for over 40 years and I was sorry to hear that Joan  had passed. She will truly be missed by her family and friends. Rest In Paradise, Joan 🙏🏼💕

When I was an infant at my mother’s breast  we twins gurgled and cooed like twins .When I grew up ,I left those way were good. 
We don’t yet see things clearly,We’re Squinting in a fog,peering through a mist. But it won’t be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright! .We’ll see it all then , see it all as clearly as GOD sees us ,knowing him directly just as he knows us ! 
But for right now ,until that Completeness’ ,we have three things to do to LEAD us toward that consummation: 
TRUST steadily in GOD ,

I am proud to be your 1st cousin and I am a twin as well. I know God never makes mistakes and we are honored and humbled to be citizens of the kingdom of God. I remember every August and Thanksgiving during Christmas breaks from School  Uncle Nehemiah and Aunt Odessa made the trip from Arlington-Va -to South Boston ,Va and in the community of Washington City to visit Granny & Papa.The moment Granny said “guess who is coming for the holidays “your cousins”and your Uncle and Aunt. My mother’s  sister Aunt Delores and her family Gerald and Ramon her sons would travel by Greyhound or Trail-ways from Alexandria ,Va .Wheneryone would come to South Boston ,Va ; we managed to start hugging family either from the car from the entrance of the back door 🚪 all the way to the kitchen. The kitchen is where all the happening  .  The ladies would talk about collard greens that we’re just picked from the vegetable garden.The turkey and dressing just taken out of the oven when oven macaroni and cheese was going in the oven.   
While homemade vanilla cake and homemade apple 🥧 pie was waiting to be  placed in the oven as well  Our grandma always had del monte spiced peaches and White House Apple rings . Jean & Joan Tonia and Gerald ,would sit on one side of the Dining room table and Erwin  Ramon Jr ,and  Chucky would sit on the entrance next to the kitchen .The grown up’s would sit on the on the ends of the table and at the Head table seating and dinners. Our grandmother, better known as Mrs.Annie Sue Fleming after dinner and clean up of dishes she would play game called Croquet where you hit different color balls through the white metal wickets and whoever hits our balls furthest away from the end poles win . My grandma would beat mostly but she would feel sorry for us and Joan would win. Jean win some games and Ramon Jr was bossy but he would help other hit the balls in the wickets  until Granny sent his ball sailing down the embankment hill . 

If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.

Joan was a sweet young lady my cousin  we did not see much of each other because of the distace we talked  on the phone every now n then Joan you are going to be missed R.I.P  the family  will keep your family n prayer🙏🏽🙏🏽👏🏾

It was nice visiting and staying at your home when we visited years ago.  We had lots of laughs. 

This is still a shock to me, but I remember all the times when y'all would come down to South Boston and we had such a great time hanging out and be all over the place. My thoughts and prayers are with you and hoping that God would give you strength to get through this difficult time.

Our beautiful sweet Joan. You were not just a co worker......you have been my friend. I always loved your laugh and humor. Your love of stuffing all year round and your love of leopard print everything. Sweet Angel you helped so many residents and your so loved.  Can't stop thinking about you. All my prayers for your family.  I talk to you in my prayers every night. You were the first friend I made at work. You made me feel so welcomed. Goodness how many times did we both take each others glasses because we both picked the same ones. Laughed so much during 7pm check in time to read announcements and gor some reason we couldn't stop laughing. The moment I walked though the doors every day we both would grin and you would say "Here comes my Lucy Lu " and I'd say Hi! Did you eat stuffing today? I remember you picking up the phone one day and you answered it 'thank you for calling Friendlies this Joan" you looked at me and put your head on the desk and gave me the phone because you were laughing so hard! After the call you said it was my fault you said Friendlies because I started talking about ice cream.
Joan.....we all love you so much. Fly freely with the other angels. Till we meet again.....your Lucy Lu


My memory is full of Uncle Nehemiah bringing you guys and Chuck to Granny's in. Washington City and stay for a week each time. We never wanted to come inside from playing.  We never saw the adults except to make sure that we were not on the train tracks. We cried when you guys left going back to Arlington. Joan, you and Jean were fascinating. You two spoke your own language. We referred to you guys as the Twins. So many awesome memories.  Kiss Erwin for me.
