He was born in Fairfax, VA on May 25, 1962 to Angus and Batya Wootten.
Michael graduated from Southwestern Central High School in Jamestown, New York. He also studied at Jamestown Community College.
Since he was small, Michaels’s dream was to become a Police Officer, and he lived that dream for more than 25 years. Michael spent 16 years working for the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office which during this time he rose to the level of Lieutenant. Most recently he worked for the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office. His greatest joy in life was working with people and feeling like he had helped them. People that met Michael while he was on duty often commented on how he treated them with respect. He was never too busy to take a moment to pray with someone as he knew Jesus Christ to be his Savior. At this time, his family is able to take comfort in that fact.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Renee, his three daughters, Nicolle, Lauren and Emily, his parents Angus and Batya, his in-laws, Randy and Shirley Menefee, his brother, David, sisters, Traci, Linda, Ann and Trish, his chosen daughter, Jennifer, his fellow deputies, brother in-law and fellow believers.
A funeral service will be held today at 10am at Salem Fields Community Church 11120 Gordon Rd. Fredericksburg, Virginia 22407
