With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Former Fire Chief Norman Ray Hatcher, Jr., who departed this life on October 8, 2025 at the age of 69. A dedicated public servant, Norman devoted his life to the fire service and to the community he so faithfully protected and served.
Norman had 50 years of dedicated fire service across Northern Virginia and Naples, FL. His leadership, courage, and commitment left a lasting impact. He was a mentor to many and a steadfast presence in times of both crisis and calm. His legacy of service, integrity, and compassion will long be remembered.
Norman is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Kimberly Hatcher; his five children: Mary (Brian) Evans, Joseph Ray (Meghan Eager), Norman Ray III (Kasey), Matthew Neil (Misty), and Anthony Jay (Mikayla); siblings: Patricia (Thom) Cooper, and Jamie Nolan; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was the proud grandfather of 15 grandchildren: Christian, Annie, Stephanie, Jackson, Brenden, Easton, Gemma, Bella, Savannah, Jade, Charlotte, Dillon, Josie, Delilah, and Georgia-May—each of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
Norman's greatest love was his family. He will be remembered not only for his public service but for the warmth, humor, and unwavering love he shared with those closest to him.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, 1621 Emancipation Highway, Fredericksburg, VA from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, where a celebration of Norman’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at 12:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to Cooking Autism (https://www.cookingautism.org/donate) and Tunnel to Towers.
He will be deeply missed, forever honored, and lovingly remembered.
