Philip James Roke, 65, of Fredericksburg, VA, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at his residence. He graduated from the Greater Nanticoke Area H.S. class of 1973. In 1985, he received Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Wilkes College. At the age of 16 he received his private pilot’s license. He was an active volunteer for 12 years with the Newport Twp. fire and ambulance. He worked as a police officer for Newport Twp. for 3 years before being hired by the Federal Dept. of Transportation. In 2018, he retired from the Dept. of Transportation headquarters in Washington D.C. after 32 years of service. He was a life member of National Speleological Society, where he enjoyed caving through the local Battlefield Area Troglodyte Society. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Theresa; two daughters, Jessica (Shawn) Mulligan and Jaclyn (Aaron) Nelson; granddaughter, Robin Mulligan; brother, Mark (Debbie) Roke; brothers-in-law, Chester (Theresa) Mierzwa and Michael (Giselle) Mierzwa; dear friends and caregivers, Joyce Hopkins and Toya Giles; and nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mario and Elaine Roke and sister, Lisa Roke Higgins. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2020, at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel at 11 o’clock, with the family receiving friends an hour prior to the service.
