He was born on October 17, 1950, in Alexandria, VA to the late Leon Ralph Bushey, Sr. and Ida Mae (Brann) Bushey.
In his younger years Robert worked for Fruit Growers Express (Railroad) welding box cars. After about 10 years he changed careers and became a carpenter at Anning-Johnson in Northern Virginia. He worked there alongside his son Bobby from the late 80’s to 2003. Then they both moved over to CCE Specialties where he began as foreman, was promoted to Superintendent and later retired in 2016. Along the way Robert made many lifelong friends and had many good times. He went by BUSHEY and the guys loved to hang banner size pictures of him around the warehouse for fun.
Robert put his family and kids above everything else. When his kids were young, he worked hard to provide for them. Cooking, cleaning, and coaching all the sports (soccer, baseball, football). He wanted to give Bobby, Chrissy & Jenny all that he could. Even when times were tough, he found a way.
He loved riding his Harley and spending time at bike week in Myrtle Beach. He was an avid hunter; hunting deer but he especially loved rabbit hunting and training his dogs to run. He also loved fishing with Bobby and his friends in the Bay. Later in life he took pride in teaching his grandkids to fish, cook crabs and use tools to fix things around the house. Cooking a bushel of crabs and having the family over with some cold beer was the perfect good time for him at home! He was our rock and our go to when times got rough. He had a way of making everything better and giving comfort. He was stubborn and a straight shooter but was the sweetest man and the best dad ever. He will be missed beyond words and our hearts are broken, but he’s in Heaven and we are all better people because of him. Dad, you will be in our hearts forever.
Predeceased by his parents, two brothers: Michael and Ralph Bushey; one sister: LuAnn Lillie and one nephew: Matthew Dobson.
