

Born in August 1935, in Columbus, Georgia, Bob lived a life marked by dedication to his family, his country, and his community. He attended Hall High School in West Hartford Connecticut before proudly serving in the United States Air Force for 25 years including the Vietnam War, before retiring with honors after a distinguished military career. Following his service to the nation, Bob continued his commitment to public safety by working for over two decades as an air traffic controller with the Federal Aviation Administration.
A man of deep faith, Bob was a devoted member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fredericksburg, Virginia. His strong and loving nature left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Family was at the heart of Bob’s life; he cherished every moment spent with loved ones and found great joy in their company.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years Dorothy; his three children: Deborah, Robert Jr. and his wife Salena, and Monique; his five grandchildren: Donald, Robert III, Danielle, Javon, and Jeanna; and his five great-grandchildren: Lillian, EJ, Aelani, Javon Jr., and Joy. He also leaves behind extended family members and many dear friends who he loved and will continue to honor his memory.
He was predeceased by his loving mother, Jane (Grier) Willis.
In addition to his devotion to family and faith, Bob had a passion for the University of Connecticut sports. Whether cheering from the stands or following games from home, he remained a loyal fan throughout the years.
A visitation for Robert will be held Thursday, May 1, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, 1621 Emancipation Hwy, Fredericksburg, Virginia 22401. A Mass of Christian burial will occur Friday, May 2, 2025 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 1009 Stafford Ave, Fredericksburg, VA. A burial will occur Monday, May 5, 2025 at 10:00 AM at National Memorial Cemetery at Quantico, 18424 Joplin Road, Triangle, VA.
Robert Joseph "Bob" Willis Sr.'s legacy of strength, love, and unwavering dedication will live on through all those whose lives he touched. May his memory bring comfort and inspiration to those who knew him.
