February 9, 1940 – October 6, 2025
Russell Edward Powell was born in Lovingston, Virginia on February 9, 1940, to Frank L. and Beulah M. (Kidd) Powell. He was the youngest of five children: Daisy M. Feaganes, Darrell M. Powell, Georgia C. Taylor, and Frank E. (Buddy) Powell. Due to opportunities during WWII, the family moved to Alexandria and later Franconia, Virginia. Russ enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1957 and served six years as an Airman First Class. He also served in the United States Navy for a brief time in 1970. After his service to our nation, Russell eventually went to work for the Federal Aviation Administration as an electrician at Reagan National, West Virginia International, and Dulles International airports. Russell ended his career as a Senior Inspector for the Parsons Management Company and retired in 2005.
A longtime member of the Central Baptist Church in Woodbridge, Virginia, Russ served as a Deacon, Trustee, and spread the gospel with the Faithful Men group. He was an avid Washington Redskins and Washington Nationals fan. Russ enjoyed playing golf, collecting coins, and gardening, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Judith Lynn Powell. He had six children: Rhonda L. Dickey (Tom), Matthew T. Powell, Michael L. Barnett (Amy), Diana L. Konzny, Eric D. Powell (Wendi) and Brian T. Powell (Etta). He leaves behind twelve grandchildren: Brittany, Zachary, Aaron, Shaina, Austin, Dylan, Harley, Annalisa, Lily, Joseph, Lucas, and Lucy and six great-grandchildren Arjen, Emmalynn, Maxwell, Addison, Russell, and Everett. He will be deeply missed.
