
He was born January 15, 1949 in Beckley, WV to the late Henry Edward Brooks and Ramona Anne Brooks. He attended Woodrow Wilson High School, attended Beckley College, and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Technology from Strayer University.
Stephen enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1966 and completed three tours of duty in Viet Nam. Following his honorable discharge at the rank of E6, in 1974, he worked as a coal miner in Bolt, WV and in service to the City of Beckley, WV as a police officer. In 1983 he enlisted in the United States Army, served a tour in Korea, and in flight operations ay Davidson Army Airfield while stationed at Fort Belvoir, VA. He retired as an E6 in 1996.
Stephen was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Timothy Edward Brooks. He is survived by wife of 44 years, Linda Sue Brooks, daughters; Shannon Ann Brooks of Fredericksburg, Wendy Jo Groves and her husband William (Bill) Arthur Groves of Triangle, VA, and sister, JoEllen Brooks Livingston and her husband James (Jim) Marvin Livingston of Manassas, VA.
Graveside rites with military honors officiated by Pastor Ronnie Ford , will be conducted at Quantico National Cemetery Thursday December 23rd at 2 p.m. Mullins- Thompson Funeral Home of Fredericksburg, VA is in charge of arrangements.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Stephen Brooks be made to The Yellow Ribbon Fund, Inc. at www.yellowribbonfund.org which supports injured service members and their families while recuperating at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Naval Medical Center.
