Talma Edward “Ted” Deane, 78, of Woodford, Virginia, passed away on April 3, 2026, following complications from bile duct cancer surgery. Born on October 20, 1947, in Takoma Park, Maryland, Ted lived a life defined by generosity, hard work, and a deep love for his family and friends.
Ted’s greatest pride was his 58-year marriage to the love of his life, Gloria Deane. Together, they built a life rich in love, laughter, and shared adventures.
After serving five years in the Army, Ted went on to a long and respected career in construction, working as a superintendent and later as an inspector before retiring in 2008.
Ted had a passion for anything with wheels and rarely missed a NASCAR race. He loved fishing, hunting, camping, and traveling, and could recite just about every episode of Gunsmoke by heart. A fan of bluegrass music, he was happiest when surrounded by good company and conversation.
Known for his friendly nature, Ted never met a stranger. He was always ready to lend a hand—whether chaperoning a field trip, caring for a neighbor’s animals, or helping with a home project. His kindness and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Ted is survived by his devoted wife, Gloria; son Christopher “Dinkus” Deane; daughter Tanya Smoot; grandchildren Eli Deane, Elizabeth Smoot, and Samuel Smoot; sisters Linda Burch, Deborah Zagrodnicek, and Roxanna Vargas; and his brother, Jimmie Deane.
In accordance with his wishes, Ted will be cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held May 17, 2026 between 1PM-5PM at the family home.
