It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Vera Boyd, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed this life on 11/22/2025. Born on December 20, 1954, Vera was the daughter of the late Paul and Lillian Janney.
Vera’s greatest joy in life was her family. She is survived by her three sons, David W. Boyd (Carol) of Madison, VA, Keith P. Boyd of Ruther Glen, VA, and Mark T. Boyd of Madison, VA; her brother, Ernie Janney of Caroline Co., VA; and her sister, Merlie Janney of Fredericksburg, VA. Vera was also the proud grandmother to five cherished grandchildren: Brandon, Jacob, Tyler, Hailey, and Angela.
Vera was a woman who found joy in the simple things of life—especially in the kitchen. Her love for cooking was legendary, and she passed down many treasured family recipes and cooking lessons to her granddaughters, ensuring that her culinary legacy would live on. No matter the time or occasion, her home was always filled with the aroma of home-cooked meals and the laughter of loved ones gathered around her table. She was a constant source of love, and her house was never empty of warmth or a full belly.
Her home was also filled with another kind of love—her collection of "Boyd Bears." Vera had a passion for collecting these bears, and wherever you went in her home, you’d find one sitting proudly, a reminder of her playful spirit and affection for her family.
Vera also had a special love for Elvis Presley, a passion she had the opportunity to live out when she and her granddaughters traveled to Graceland, fulfilling a lifelong dream. She will always be remembered for her contagious enthusiasm and her ability to make every moment unforgettable.
One of Vera’s sweetest traditions was her annual gift to her grandchildren: a Christmas ornament, each one with its own special theme. These ornaments will forever serve as a reminder of her love and thoughtfulness.
Vera lived a full and beautiful life, always surrounded by the ones she loved. She was the heart of her family, a woman of kindness, humor, and unwavering love. Her legacy of cooking, love for Elvis, and treasured family traditions will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
We find comfort in knowing that, in heaven, there will be a Cooking Network channel just for Vera.
Vera will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
