Mike was born on July 17, 1951 in Raytown, MO to James and Donna Speek. It is with a heavy heart that we confess that after graduating Raytown South, Mike attended KU before he wised up, followed in his father’s footsteps, and joined the Navy. In 1980, Mike placed all his bets on a woman he’d known for two months, and married Nancy (Auger) Speek. His wife of 36 years survives the home.
Mike held a number of jobs throughout his life, but coaching sports was by far his favorite. Mike enjoyed watching sports and providing a play-by-play analysis to Nancy, studying American history, listening to a wide variety of music, embellishing stories, taking on his children’s passions as his own, eating breakfast with the local Sub Vets, and spending time with his friends and family.
Mike is survived by his son Jim (Jill) Speek of Corning, New York; his son Aaron Speek of Fulton; his daughter Sarah (Clayton) Sachs of Fulton; his son Jon (Marisa) Speek of Arvada, Colorado; and grandsons Armani, Jaden, and Daniel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Donna Speek, and his sister, Carla Burbridge.
A memorial service will be held at Debo Funeral Home in Fulton on Sunday, November 12, at 2:00 p.m., with Bob Washington officiating. The family will receive guests at 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans in care of Debo Funeral Home, 833 Court Street, Fulton, Missouri 65251.
