Barbara Reed

Mrs. Reed was born October 23, 1936 in Gadsden to John H. Owen, Jr. and Katherine S. Owen. She was a graduate of Gadsden High School and Brenau College, where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta. She was an educator having taught at Mitchell Elementary School, as a piano teacher to many students and retired from the Gadsden Public Library with over 20 years of service. She was a life member of the PTA.

Mrs. Reed was a member of the Alabama City Historical Association and was an active volunteer with the Gadsden Museum of Art. She was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church and was a frequent visitor to First United Methodist Church of Gadsden.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 63 years, Robert Benjamin “Ben” Reed; sons, Robert Benjamin “Ben” Reed II, San Antonio, TX and John Scott Reed, Hoover, AL; daughters-in-law, Lisa Sherer Reed, San Antonio, TX and Terese Renier Reed, Hoover, AL; grandchildren, Adam Taylor Reed and Crista Saxon Reed, San Antonio, TX, Robert Lance Reed and Amber Bibb Reed, San Antonio, TX, Andrew Chadwick “Chad” Reed, Hoover, AL, Mathew Benjamin “Ben” Reed, Hoover, AL and Daniel Austin Meinhardt and Ashley Harris Meinhardt, Hoover, AL; great grandchildren, Taylor Everleigh Reed, Lily James Reed, Robert Hudson Reed and Claire Ainsley Reed, all of San Antonio, TX; sister-in-law, Nita Woods Walls Norton and lifelong friends, David and Diane Owen.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mrs. Reed’s memory to the Etowah County Humane Society, 4200 Brooke Avenue, Gadsden, AL 35904.
