Born on August 8, 1939, in Keener, Alabama, Carolyn was the daughter of the late W.O. Walker and Dorothy Cunningham Walker. A lifelong learner and dedicated educator, she graduated from Etowah High School in 1957. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Education from Jacksonville State University in 1961 and later received her Master’s degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Carolyn devoted her life to teaching, spending most of her distinguished career as a 4th-grade teacher at Glencoe Elementary School from 1964 until her retirement in 1996. Her classroom was a place of warmth, curiosity, and growth for generations of students, many of whom remember her fondly as a guiding light in their early lives.
Beyond her career, Carolyn found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved traveling, reading, working crosswords, and most of all, spending time with her family. Her greatest pride was in her role as a loving grandmother and great-grandmother.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her beloved parents, W.O. and Dorothy Walker. She is survived by her devoted son Chris Boatfield (Mary); granddaughter Kaylie Reeves (Andrew); grandson Adam Boatfield; and great-grandchildren Madeline, Elizabeth, and Ruthie Reeves. She also leaves behind her sister Betty Roberts; nieces Vonnie Roberts and Dana Ashley (Terry); and many dear friends and former students.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to ACG Hospice for their compassionate care, and to her dedicated sitters—Joyce, Faye, Tammy, and Debbie—whose kindness and support meant so much in Carolyn’s final days.
Her life was one of quiet strength, generosity, and steadfast love—a legacy that lives on in all those she touched.
