

Charles Louis Copeland, 77, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2025, surrounded by family and friends. Born June 19, 1948, to William and Helen Copeland in Smithtown, New York, before moving to Gadsden, Alabama to live out the rest of his life.
Charles was the founder and owner of Copeland Construction. Founded in 1974, he built the company from the ground up and became highly respected in Etowah County and surrounding areas. For 50 years, he formed relationships throughout the county and served his clients tirelessly, doing whatever necessary to meet the needs of those he worked with. In addition, Mr. Copeland served as Alabama Homebuilders Association President for numerous years throughout his career.
Charles was a family man, who valued spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren above all else. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon among his church family. His journey on earth was full of love, compassion and unwavering faith in God. His passing has left a void in the hearts of family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for the way it was lived, and for the impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Charles is survived by his children: Kevin Copeland and his spouse, Jamie Copeland; Holly Copeland Troup and her spouse, Kevin Troup; Grandchildren: Haley Troup; Abby Copeland Partridge, spouse Campbell Partridge; Brady Troup; Kayce Copeland Chamblee, spouse Jacob Chamblee; great grandchild, Brooks Partridge; and sister, Candi Minton.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years: Shirley Copeland; Parents: William and Helen Copeland; Brother: Richie Copeland; Fur baby: “Duke”.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Pruitt’s restaurant and staff for always providing a sense of community and warmth, special friends of the family Melissa Thorton, Emma, Katie, Kenzie and Meghan. ACG Hospice, Jamie Battles and Kelsey Young.
Pallbearers will be Bill Lowman, Heath Glenn, Paul Jr. Cromwell, Mark Tidmore, Daniel Nance, Brady Troup, Jacob Chamblee and Campbell Partridge.
Honorary Pallbearers will be David McDaniel, Brent Mashburn, Thomas McNew, Lane McNew, Charlie Murry, Jacks Roundtable Breakfast Club and Construction Colleagues.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday afternoon from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Collier-Butler Funeral Home. Charles will lie in state at Fairview Baptist Church from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, with the service to follow at 1:00 pm. He will be laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.
