

Dr. Clifton Earl Osborn, 84, of Southside peacefully entered the Lord’s glorious presence on March 24, 2022 after a struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He was born on September 13, 1937 in Tishomingo, Mississippi to Zedric and Dora Johnson Osborn. Cliff was raised on a farm, led a rock band, and after serving in the U.S. Army, dedicated himself to education at the University of Mississippi. He was very proud of his family and his students at Gadsden State Community College, where he served as both Professor and Dean of Instruction, and also shared a healthy sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years Carol Smith Osborn and the family they built together - sons Jason (Lynn) Osborn of Priceville and Jesse Osborn of Rainbow City, and grandchildren Jeff, Melina, and Andrew Osborn. He is also survived by sister in-law Myra Sue Osborn of Boaz, brother in-law Willie (JoAnn) Smith of Belmont, Mississippi, nephews Tony Osborn and Steve, Greg, Tim, and Robbie Smith, and nieces Mitzi McLaurine, Becky Kinney, and Lisa Hansberger.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Howard Osborn, brother in-law Roy Lyle Smith, sister in-law Clytee Smith Hansberger, nephew Joey Underwood, and niece Susan Hansberger.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to St. Jude’s.
