On October 4, 2015 Dorothy Jean Hanks Estes passed away at the young age of 83 years and traveled to the place she’d been waiting to go. She left her body behind and is no longer tired, hungry, or in any pain. Now she’s perfect and in the company of her mother Della Gaskey and her father John H Hanks, and waiting on her husband of 56 years, Nyle M. Estes. Dorothy is also surely watching over her sons, David Estes and Danny (Vickie) Estes, her grandchildren Kaitlyn (V’Aires) Davis and Kyle Estes, and her great-grandchildren Kira Estes and Zayon Davis.
Dorothy was always known as a deeply religious woman and was a member of North Glencoe Baptist Church for over fifty years where she served as church secretary for twenty of those years. Her friends and family all spoke of her as kind, gentle and compassionate with harsh words for no one.
The gathering to remember Dorothy will be at Collier-Butler Tuesday evening beginning at 5:00PM for family, 6:00PM to 8:00PM for her many friends. Her funeral will be presided over by Rev. David Cofield Wednesday at 2:00PM at Collier-Butler with a graveside service at Crestwood Cemetery immediately after.
Those who honor Dorothy by being her pallbearers are Jason Arthur, Donnie Dickey, Dixon Hayes, Gary Hunt, Gene Lankford, and Keith Newton.
A special thank you to Dr. Carpenter and the staff of Gadsden Regional Medical Center SICU and MICU for their caring and the ladies of Coosa Valley Health Care for their tender attention during her stay. She couldn’t say it, but her frequent visits were made much more bearable because of you all.
