Dorothy Stanford Griffin

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2018, at Collier-Butler Funeral Home for Dorothy S. Griffin, 94, 402 Lenford Avenue, Glencoe, who died Tuesday, March 27, 2018. Gary McCurdy will officiate. Burial will be at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services.

Dorothy, known to family and friends as ""Butterball,"" was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was born and raised in Sheffield, Alabama, and graduated from Sheffield High School. She graduated in accounting from the University of Alabama, Gadsden Extension Center. She married John Frank Griffin in 1942 and worked by his side in the family business, Griffin's Poultry, until becoming a full-time mother and housewife. She was a member of Glencoe Church of Christ.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, John Frank Griffin; parents, Lonnie Lee and Arnett Stanford; brothers, Lonnie Lee Stanford Jr., Howard Owen Stanford, and George Edward Stanford.

She is survived by her children, Mike (Linda) Griffin, John Frank Griffin Jr., Cathy (Tony) Armstrong, Melissa (Bruce) Bedwell, George Edward (Tammy) Griffin; grandchildren, Karen Warnock, Christy (John) McDaniel, Laurie (Darrell) Ford, Brandi (Brian) Winningham, Holley (Alan) Smedley, Gabe Armstrong, John Wayne (Kristen) Bedwell, Amy Jane Bedwell, Jessica (Tim) Johnson, Josh Griffin, Tim (Katie) Griffin; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Bettye Ann Staggers (Tuscumbia).

Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.

A special thanks to Camellia Hospice and their staff.

Family will receive friends for visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service.
