Dorothy Inez Parker Wood

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, 2017, at Collier-Butler Chapel for Dorothy Inez Parker Wood, 83, Gadsden, who passed away Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, at her home. Burial will be at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, Southside. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.

Inez was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a longtime member of Southside Baptist Church and retired from the Gadsden City Board of Education.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Martha Cox Parker; brothers, Alton, Alfred, Walter and Jesse Parker; and sister, Nora Harris.

Inez is survived by her husband of 67 years, Joel N. Wood Sr.; sons, Joel N. (Kandis) Wood Jr. of Hiram, Georgia, Ken (Lynne) Wood of Fayetteville, Tennessee, and Gary (Linda) Wood of Panama City Beach, Florida; grandchildren, Joshua (Lauren) Wood, Lindsay (Daniel) Pearson, Jordan (Ansley) Wood and Lauren (Jeremy) Evans; great-grandchildren, Cooper Pearson, Cori Pearson, Hudson Evans, Eliza Wood and Copeland Evans; and brother, Thurman (Lena) Parker.

Serving as pallbearers will be Luke Kennedy, Fred Satterfield, Gehrig Fuhrman, David Sewell, Charles Parker and Phillip Parker.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Southside Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home Friday before the service.
