

Chapel funeral service for Mr. Edward “Buddy” Battles, 85, Rainbow City, who died at home with his family by his side on September 13, 2011, will be 2 PM Friday September 16, 2011. Rev. Craig Sitz and Rev.Tommy Hutt will officiate with burial to follow at Mt. Pisagah Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services directing.
Mr. Battles was preceded in death by his son, James Paul Battles; his parents, McKinley and Lessie Battles; 2 grandsons, Zale Chambers and Dondy Chambers; 4 sisters; and two brothers. He was a lifelong resident of Etowah County and was a saw miller and logger for most of his life.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Katie Belle Angle Battles; daughters, Ann (James) Hayes, of Cocoa, FL, Lilla (Ron) Chambers of Gadsden, Marie (James) Smith of Rainbow City, Mandy (Jeff) Romine of Boaz, Rena (Bobby) Brand of Ballplay, Emmily Battles (Chris Barnard) of Southside; sisters, Josie Mobbs of Gaylesville, Mary (Troy) Steel of Odessa, FL, Ella (Dean) Ledford of Marysville, WA. He also leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Delane and Robin Hayes, Andrew and Aaron Romine, Chris Barnard, Mark Bell, Jeff Davis, and Charlie McGraw. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. John Eagan Sr. and Dr. Timothy Lee.
The family would like to send special thanks to the doctors and staff of Trinity Medical Center and Comfort Care Hospice.
The family will accept friends on Thursday evening from 6 PM until 8 PM at the funeral home.
