
Funeral service will be held at 11 am Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Collier-Butler Chapel for Mrs. Elsie Hughes Taylor, 94, of Gadsden. Rev. J.D. McDuffie and Rev. Mike Owen will officiate with burial to follow at Forrest Cemetery.
On August 17th Elise Hughes Taylor know to many as “Mama Elsie” passed from this world to her everlasting home with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. “Mama Elsie” was born November 28th 1915 in Wilsonville, AL she moved to Gadsden as a young child where she remained for the next 84 years. Elsie was a member of 12th Street Baptist Church for over 70 years and was a member of the Light Sharers Sunday School Class. She was owner and operator of the Playskool Nursery and Kindergarten also partnered in Taylor Crane Rental and Rigging. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband. G.T. Taylor Jr. her mother Gertrude Dunlap Hughes, her dad James D. Hughes, her daughter Elaine Taylor McDuffie and her brother, Paul T. Hughes.
She is survived by her son, G.T. “Sonny” (Pat) Taylor; son-in-law Wallace H. McDuffie Sr. grandchildren Tammy (Steve) McDuffie, Wally H. McDuffie Jr., Suzy (Jim) Steward, J.D. (Diane) McDuffie, Adam (Tosha) Taylor, Dink (Suzanne) Taylor, Bo (Cecelia) Taylor, Trey (Kellie) Taylor; 12 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, also special friend Nora Sue Glenn.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Capital Building Fund of 12th Street Baptist Church or The National Parkinson’s Foundation.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Special thanks to Myra Hill, Bennie Dowdy, Beth Chapman, and Gadsden Regional Medical Center 9th floor nurses and technicians.
The family will receive friends at Collier-Butler Wednesday, August 18, 2010 from 6 pm until 8 pm.
