A celebration of life for Frankie O. Lankford, 89, Gadsden, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Collier-Butler chapel. Rev. Kenneth Lasseter will officiate. Burial will be at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mitchell, of 62 years; parents, Frank and Beulah Thompson; and siblings: Mabel, Kermit, Estelle, W.L., and Carthell Thompson, Moree Shrum, Gertrude Lawerence, and Kathleen Mayes.
Our beloved Mother and Granny went home to be with her Savior on Monday, February 3, 2014. We can only imagine what it was like when she saw Jesus face to face, and her Mitchell after almost 10 years apart. We are glad she is now completely healed!
Mother/Granny was a Christian and a dedicated member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church for almost 53 years. She worked in the spinning room at Dwight Cotton Mill until it closed and held several other jobs until she retired. She was a great cook, famous for her chicken fingers and delicious fried apple pies, which she often prepared for her family and church. She was, most of all, proud of being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Kathy Lankford, Rainbow City; grandchildren, Kim and Ray Thrasher, Huntsville, and Jeff and Kim Lankford, Rainbow City; great-grandchildren: Amanda, Allison, and Andrew Thrasher, Huntsville, and Brady and Carly Lankford, Rainbow City; sister, Daphine Pledger; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray and Dot Lankford, Earl Knight, and Bonnie Lankford, all of Gadsden; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be, Jerry Shrum, Mickey Pledger, Dwight Lawrence, Rick Hester, Don Emery, and Troy Nelson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cure Alzheimer’s Fund, 34 Washington St., Suite 200, Wellesley Hills, MA 02481. Donations may also be made online at curealz.org.
Special thanks to the staff at Oak Landing and the 7th floor nurses at Riverview Regional.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 at the funeral home tonight.
