

George Nelson Cooper Sr. passed away peacefully on August 19, 2015 in Alexander City, AL. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Rainbow Presbyterian Church. The family will accept friends an hour prior to the service. Collier- Butler Funeral and Cremation Services handling arrangements.
George was born on May 3, 1933 in Gadsden, AL. He graduated from Gadsden High School class of 1950. He later attended the University of Alabama and graduated from Jacksonville State University. George was a lifetime resident of Gadsden, AL and a founding member of Rainbow Presbyterian Church. He served our country in Korea for the US ARMY and then worked at Litchfield High School as a beloved math teacher. He was a private accountant in Gadsden for 50 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Carolyn Morris Cooper; daughter, Rebecca Carolyn Cooper and parents, Oliver Milton Cooper and Rosa Nell Cooper Cooper.
He is survived by three sons, Dr. George Nelson Cooper Jr. (Katharine Robinson) Alexander City, AL; Michael Ross Cooper, Ocean Springs, MS; and Dr. John Mark Cooper (Jean Kleiss) Gadsden, AL ; He has seven grandchildren, Michael Gordon and Rebecca Katharine Cooper, Alexander City, AL; Carter Patrick, William Stinson and Benjamin Kleiss Cooper, Gadsden, AL ; Anna Grace and Rebecca Tatum Cooper, Ocean Springs, MS. He is survived by his brother, Oliver Milton Cooper Jr. Atlanta, GA, and sister, Catherine (Kitty) Cooper Pate, Gadsden, AL. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
