Harold James Denton Sr.

Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church for Mr. Harold James Denton, Sr., age 74 of Gadsden who passed away Tuesday-May 31, 2011. Revs. Norris Hilton and Jackie Bentley will officiate with burial at Fairview Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services Directing. Mr. Denton was one of twelve children and a native of Whittier, NC residing in Gadsden since 1972. A member of Mt Carmel Baptist Church where he had served as chairman of the deacons. He was an eight year Veteran of the U S Marines serving as a seargent. Mr. Denton owned and operated the Noccalula Food Mart and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and being outdoors. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary Ella Moore Denton, son, Harold J. Denton, Jr. and wife Robin, Reece City, daughter, Shannon Gail Denton Floyd and husband James, Birmingham, grandchildren, Abbey Lee Denton, Anna Claire Denton, Joshua James Floyd and Caleb Denton Floyd, several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be, Jim Womack, Mark Tucker, Bill Clay, David Womack, Jan Stanley and Charlie Couch. Honorary Pallbearers will be, Dr. Fred Taylor, Ted Duckett and Russell Moore. Special thanks to the nurses and staff with Alacare Hospice. The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 1402 Kyle Avenue, Gadsden, AL 35904 or Alacare Hospice, 500 So 3rd Street, Gadsden, AL 35901. Visitation will be this evening from 6-8 p.m. the funeral home. Mr. Denton will lie in state for one hour prior to services at the church Friday
