

Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Collier-Butler Funeral Home for Harold L. Roper, 84, of Gadsden, who died Monday, September 3, 2012. Chaplin Jackie Bentley will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
Mr. Roper was a native and lifelong resident of Etowah County. He was a member of Dwight Baptist church and Dwight Masonic Lodge. He was affiliated with the Eastern Star and had served as a worthy patron. He retired from Alabama Gas Company with 43 years of service. He also was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Roper was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Roper.
He is survived by his son; Richard H. “Rick” Roper, Pleasant Grove, AL; his grandchildren; Stephanie Hampton, Pleasant Grove, AL, Brian Roper, Gadsden, AL, Mark Roper, and his wife Hope Roper, State College, PA; brother; Lloyd, and his wife Barbara, Roper, of the Huntsville area; 3 sisters-in-law; Helen McKinney, Boaz, Jackie Ryan, Gadsden, and Arris Chambers and her husband Jerry “Booie” Chambers, of Gadsden, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend thanks to the staff of Alacare Hospice and especially to Shellar Norton and Lori Hornsby, for their care and concern for our Dad. A very special thanks goes to Mr. Ropers Grandson; Brian who devoted 6 years to the care of his grandfather in his time of need and went above and beyond what was expected.
In Lieu of flowers, the family request that, memorials may be made in Mr. Ropers name to Alacare Hospice of Gadsden.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 5, 2012 form 12:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
