

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Collier-Butler Funeral Home Chapel for Mr. J. Wayne Brooks (known by his friends as “Senator”), age 64, Gadsden, who passed away Sunday, July 4, 2010. The Rev. Scott Hassell and Rev. Chris Walker will officiate with burial at Forestlawn Cemetery, Anniston. Collier-Butler Funeral Home and Cremation Services directing.
Mr. Brooks was a 1964 graduate of Anniston High School where he excelled in basketball, baseball and served as quarterback for his football team. He retired from Goodyear after 36 years of service. Wayne attended Auburn University, was a member of River Trace Golf Course and Goodyear Goofballs Bowling League. He enjoyed playing golf, bowling, Auburn football and spending time with friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his father, John D. Brooks; and brother, Bobby Haynes Brooks.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jana Bobbitt Brooks; mother, Georgia Haynes Brooks; daughters, Angela Brooks (Danny) Caylor, Shannon Brooks (Jamie) Hamilton, Karen Brooks (Brian) Culverhouse and Jennifer Bedwell; grandchildren, Jacob, Abby and Max Caylor, Barclay and Kate Culverhouse and Colton Nelson; sisters; Patsy A. (Charles) Stubbs and Gail Pogue; father and mother-in-law, Doyce and Shirley Bobbitt; brother-in-law, Danny Bobbitt; nephews, David Stubbs, Andy Stubbs, Michael Pogue and Scott Pogue; nieces, Lisa Elam and Monica Odum; as well as many grand nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Rickey Young, Scott Wood, Jimmy “Chicken” Smith, Randel Mountain, Danny Parris, Butch Taylor, Willie Garman, Tim McCartney, Bruce Hassell, William Weiser, Jerry Peak and David Rogers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Boyd, Larry Moon, Mike Harrison, Ray Pierce, Doc Griffith and James Bowers.
The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff of Gadsden Regional Medical Center, Cross Creek Community Church and for all the love and support of friends and family.
A visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Collier-Butler Funeral Home.
