He was born on Sept. 15, 1928, in Delrose, Tenn., the youngest son of Harvey R. and Rosa Lee M. Mitchell.
While at Harding College in Searcy, Ark., he met his wife of 59 years, Margaret Edna Mitchell, who died in 2010. They married Dec. 20, 1950, and the rest he lived as a devoted husband, committed father, grandfather, great-grandfather and servant to his Lord Jesus Christ.
He would be described as generous, light hearted, faithful, true and loyal. His passions were his family, his Church and the helpless. He was an extensive collector of everything, but his real treasure is in Heaven.
He is survived by his sons, Jack Jr. and Ken; his grandchildren, Jack III, Nathan, Jonathan, Amber Wallace, Josh, Nicholas, Jake Brown and Alli Brown; his great-grandchildren, Jessica, Jacob, Grant, Luke, Anna Sophia, Noah, Gracie and Nataly; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He will be missed by his church families at Fairview Road Church of Christ and Central Church of Christ in Gadsden, where he served as an elder and song leader.
Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Collier-Butler Funeral Home. A memorial service will held Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 10 a.m. in the chapel at Collier-Butler Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, please send gifts to Child Haven Orphanage, Cullman.
