Born in Boaz, Alabama, Jerry graduated from Berry High School and then Berry College in Rome, Georgia in 1967. During college he was in the Navy Reserves for several years and was activated aboard the USS Tweedy in 1966, during the Vietnam Conflict. After college graduation, Jerry worked from GMAC for 30 years, retired, and then was called to become a Registered Nurse until he retired again.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hosmer and Gladys Plunkett, brother, Donald, sister-in-law, Jean, brother-in-law, David Womack, and nephew, Mark Plunkett.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Elaine McLendon Plunkett, daughters, Monica (Cole) Williams, Carrie Lance, Mayumi Oda (Ronnie) Siu, sisters, Wanda Womack and Sandra Scott; grandchildren, Gage and Morgan Lance, Eli, Macy and Cason Williams, Emma and Leo Siu and many nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.
He loved his family and taking care of the sick. Always quick with a joke, humor was his favorite thing next to singing.
Jerry’s wish was that his passing would benefit medical research.
A memorial visitation to share memories will be at Collier-Butler Funeral Home, Thursday, November 4, 2021 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. The family requests casual attire. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Wounded Warriors or your preferred charity.
