One More Time, With Love
I’d like to tell a story
of how it all began,
with the words “I love you”
from a good and loving man.
He sat us down at the table
and told us how he felt,
about our dear mother
a woman he could not forget.
He said he loved her dearly
for she was his guiding light,
he would love, honor and keep her
each day and every night.
He loved her for her beauty
her tenderness and grace,
the loving way she looked at him
with sincerity on her face.
He said he loved us both
my brother, Scottee, and I,
he would love and protect us
until the day he died.
He showed us the ring
he so loving chose,
to place upon her finger
to take away her woe’s.
We knew his love was real
from the way that he spoke,
of becoming our dear father
even though, he was broke.
It wasn’t his money
or the possessions that he had,
but the love he was offering
that made us want him for a dad.
We gave him our blessing
and all our love, too,
to marry our dear mother
and to marry us, too.
We’ve put him through hell
since that very first day,
with teenage rebellion
and angst along the way.
He may have regretted
those words he said back then,
but he never let us know it
he always let us in.
We love him more deeply
with each passing year,
to think of his love for us
makes us shed a tear.
He’s always been there
through all of our ups and downs,
the times that we were happy
and those times that made us frown.
The man that I describe
has had his troubles, too,
terrible childhood memories
and Vietnam, too.
Though life with him ain’t easy
and the times have been tough,
we never thought of leaving him
there’s just, too, much love.
But no matter how tough it gets
or how he pushes us away,
we will stand beside him
and love him more each day.
If this description sounds like you
then you must be the man,
who we have chosen to love
and give our mothers hand.
We might not always show you
Just how much you really mean,
to Scottee and myself
You are our everything.
To simply say I love you
doesn’t seem to say enough,
but here we are saying it
one more time, with all our love.
Dee Theriot
Your Daughter
