Funeral service for Mrs. Joan Edwards Downey, 75, Rainbow City, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, 2016, at Collier-Butler Chapel. Burial will follow at Rainbow Memorial Gardens. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services directing. Mrs. Downey passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2016.Joan was a 1958 graduate of Emma Sansom High School and attended Gadsden State Junior College for 2 years. She retired as a secretary at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company after many years of service. Joan was a Methodist by faith. She was preceded in death by her parents, P.I. and Chloe Edwards. Joan is survived by her husband, Richard L. Downey of Rainbow City; sister-in-laws, Faye Griffin of Tennessee and Sandra Levy of Florida; nephews, Terry Griffin and Joseph Levy; nieces, Shoshanah Levy and Ilana Ben-Mosher; and many other extended family members. Honorary pallbearers will be Pete Swicegood, Henry McKelvey, David Copeland, Jimmy Thompson, Ken Clark, and Lewis Earl Grey.The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
