Larry T. Pierce, 74, of Gadsden, was granted his eternal reward on April 27, 2021, after a decade-long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He was surrounded by his loving family at Cherokee County Health &
Rehabilitation.
Larry was born in 1946. He resided his adult life in the Tillison Bend Community. He was a 1965 graduate of Glencoe High School, where he was a distinguished member of the football team. Larry was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church where he raised his family, attended regularly, and served faithfully in various capacities. His occupational career began at Gadsden’s steel plant, where he worked as a crane operator in the electrical department for 34 years until the plant’s closure. Larry then graduated from Gadsden State Community College with a certification in small engine repair. Mr. Pierce worked at Gadsden Nuclear Medicine until his retirement due to deteriorating health. In athletic service, Mr. Pierce coached youth league sports and participated in church league basketball and softball. Larry had many hobbies, including gardening, horseback riding, and helping others. To those who knew Larry well, there is no doubt, “Pop’s” most enjoyable time was spent making an impression and loving on his three grandchildren.
Larry T. Pierce was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years and the love of his life, Cheryl Burger Pierce; parents, Doris Burgess Lett & Robert George Pierce. He is survived by his son, Jason S. Pierce, and his daughter-in-law, Michelle Tipton Pierce; the greatest joys of his life, grandchildren: Harrison, Lynley, & Anderson Pierce; sister: Judy (Robert) Orr; brother: Jeff (Pam) Pierce; nephews: Tim (Tonya) Orr, Wayne (Cambri) Pierce, and nieces: Lisa (Jarrod) Simmons, Lori (Jordan) Holland, and a number of very close knit cousins, and chosen family, James & Dell Mackey.
Honorary pallbearers are Gavin Orr, Garrett Orr, Zack Jones, Jerry Sewell, Gerald Estes, Danny Ford, Steve Burgess, Karo Horn, Danny Bradley, & Terry Boozer.
Funeral services for Larry T. Pierce will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 30, 2021, at Collier- Butler Funeral Home in Gadsden, AL. The family will convene at 2:30pm and receive friends from 3:00-4:00pm at the funeral home. Dr. Darrell Brown, Dr. Van Lockridge, and Reverend Randy Gunter will officiate.
