Funeral service for Laura Parker, 79, of Gadsden, will be Sunday, June 24, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Collier-Butler Funeral Home. Ministers Billy Hayes and Brooks Boyd will be officiating the service. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery.
Laura was a graduate of Emma Sansom High School in the class of 1959. She married the love of her life, Don Parker, on June 29, 1959. She was a class beauty her freshman year of high school. Laura was an avid Auburn and Emma Sansom fan. She was a home maker who had a strong love for church and her family. Her favorite quote was always “church and family”. She worked for a short period of time as a home health aide. She was a very loving and caring wife, mother, and maw-maw and she loved babysitting each of her grandchildren. She was also a lifelong member of Sansom Ave and Fairview Road Church of Christ.
Laura is preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Cleo Patton and her sister Polly Patton.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Don Parker; daughter Teresa (Steve) Van Pelt; son Tim (Tina) Parker; grandchildren Erin (Chris) Jenkins, Lauren (Joe) Cagle; Alyssa (Corey) Sellers, Corbin Parker, and Kyle Parker; great-grandchildren Parker Cagle, John Cagle, and Roxanna Jenkins; brothers F. T. (Hellen) Patton and Jack (Linda Joyce) Patton; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be the members of the family.
Honorary pallbearers are the elders and deacons of Fairview Road Church of Christ.
The family would like to give special thanks to the ER staff of Riverview Regional Medical Center.
Visitation will be June 24, from 12pm until the hour of service.
