Laura Sue Burns, 75, of Southside, AL passed away May 1, 2018. Visitation will be held at Collier- Butler Funeral Home from 12:30-1:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 6, 2018. Graveside services will be held at Forrest Cemetery immediately following visitation. Brother Lauil Thompson will officiate and Matt Mabrey will provide song. Arrangements under the direction of Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services. Laura was a faithful Christian woman. She was a member of 12th Street Baptist Church where she devoted much of her time teaching God’s word to special needs students in the Sarah Barnes Special Education Sunday School Class. Laura instilled Christian values in her children and grandchildren. She was always eager to participate in outdoor events such as picnicking, fishing, scouting, biking, and a game of ball. She was the perfect mama for two boys. Among many lessons taught, she instructed her sons on how to throw a football, baseball, swing a bat, and ride a bike. Her career as a dental hygienist spanned over 20 years. Laura was dependable and helpful to all. All who knew her loved her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Burns and parents, Herschel and Mauderle Bryan. Laura is survived by her sons Guy and Chuck; her daughters-in-law Phyllis and Hayley; grandchildren Joseph, Jordan, Charley, and Bo; and her sister Janice Lowery and brother-in-law Charlie Lowery. Pallbearers will be Laura’s sons, grandsons, brother-in-law, and friend of the family Jeremy Wheeler. Honorary pallbearers will be Charley and Bo Burns. In lieu flowers, donations can be sent to the Sarah Barnes Special Education Sunday School Class at 12th Street Baptist Church. Over the last three years Laura called Woodland Place Assisted Living Facility in Southside, AL home. Laura’s family graciously thanks all the staff at Woodland for the love, care, and comradery extended to her. The Woodland staff was a blessing to Laura and to her family.
