

Funeral Services will be held on Friday August 24, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. for Lillie Hawkins Smith, 90, who passed away in her home on Monday, August 20, 2012. The service will be in the chapel at Collier Butler Funeral Home. Pastor Randy Gunter, Meadowbrook Baptist will be officiating along with David Jones, Chaplain, Amedisys Hospice. Burial will be at Rainbow Memorial gardens. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
Mrs. Smith was born on Nov 1, 1921 in Georgiana, Alabama. After her marriage, she began a career with the City of Fort Walton Beach, FL as the Assistant to the City Manager. The last 20 years of her career, she served as the Assistant to the Okaloosa County Tax Collector in Shalimar, Florida until retirement. After a challenging career, she retired and moved to Destin, FL. Then in 2002 she moved to Crestview, FL and finally in 2009 she moved with her husband to Gadsden, AL. Mrs. Smith loved being a long-standing member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Walton Beach where she served as a third grade Sunday school teacher for many years. She had a passion for painting, needlepoint and crocheting. She made something for every member of her family with her talents.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Sophia Strickland and father, David Brooks Hawkins; brothers: Frankie Brooks, Joe Boyd, and Carl Ray Hawkins and one sister, Rosia Lee Hawkins.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Cecil Wilson Smith, Gadsden, AL. Mrs. Smith has two daughters and one son: Charlotte Anne Campbell (Don), Gadsden, AL, James Wilson Smith (Jean), Colorado Springs, Co, and Janice Burnsed (Bruce) Mary Esther, FL. She has six grandchildren: Jamye Marie Ingram (Glenn), Gadsden, Carmi Shane Callans (Billy), Birmingham, Casey Ann Burnsed (Derrick),New Mexico, Sara Lynn Smith, Rachel Ann Schlab (Dan) Colorado Springs, CO, and Bruce Paul Burnsed Jr., Mary Esther, FL. She also has three great grandchildren: Kinsey Merrick Callans, Cole Parker Callans, both of Birmingham, and Jalyn Taylor Ingram, Gadsden, AL. , sister-in-law; Evelyn Crider and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be, Billy Callans, Glenn Ingram, Don Campbell, Bruce Paul Burnsed, Sr., Bruce Paul Burnsed Jr., Roger Sweat and Ken Longo.
A special thanks to Dr. Todd Cross and the staff at Amedyisis Hospice, along with the staff at City Pharmacy and to Christy Alexander and her staff for the special care they provided.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 prior to the funeral on Friday.
