

Dr. Louie Franklin Hood Sr., 67, of Gadsden, Alabama, passed away on Monday, February 7, 2022, at his residence while surrounded by his wife and children. Frank was born November 19, 1954, in Montgomery, Alabama, to Dr. and Mrs. Louie Watson Hood.
Frank grew up in Orlando, Florida, and graduated from Colonial High School in 1972. He then attended the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and went on to obtain his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Alabama in Florence. After graduating from the University of North Alabama, Frank attended the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences College of Osteopathic Medicine from which he graduated in 1983. Frank then returned to Orlando, Florida, where he had the privilege of practicing alongside his father, Dr. Louie W. Hood. Frank went on to practice emergency medicine throughout the states of Mississippi and Alabama before making his permanent home in Gadsden, Alabama. Frank then went in family practice and established The Rainbow Medical Clinic in Rainbow City, Alabama, from which he retired in 2013.
Frank was a member of the American Medical Association, the American Osteopathic Association, the American College of Emergency Physicians, and the American College of General Practitioners. Frank was also a member of Ducks Unlimited. Frank was an avid fan of the University of Alabama and was a member of the Red Elephant Club. Since retiring from his medical practice, Frank has enjoyed umpiring for the USSSA softball league as well traveling with his wife, Marta. Frank was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Gadsden, Alabama.
Frank is survived by his wife, Marta Lucia Uribe Hood of Gadsden, Alabama; daughter, Susie McSweeney (Matt) of Pell City, Alabama; son, Tad Hood of Olathe, Kansas; daughter, Brittany Hood Knill (Chuck) of Leawood, Kansas; son, Weston Hood of Tampa, Florida; son, Kris Hood of Gadsden, Alabama; step-son, Alejandro Uribe (Morgan) of Wichita, Kansas; step-son Nicolas Uribe of New York, New York, and step-daughter, Laura Uribe Palacio (Alfonso) of Miami, Florida. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren: Moriah McSweeney, Marek McSweeney, Miriam McSweeney, Jordan Ballard, Lily Knill, Rose Knill, and Chip Knill. Frank leaves behind his beloved, Labrador retriever, Bailey.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents Dr. and Mrs. Louie Watson Hood of Orlando, Florida, as well as his son, Franklin Hood, Jr. of Grenada, Mississippi, who also shared his love of attending the University of Alabama football games. It is with great comfort that we know Franklin greeted his father in heaven with a cheer of “Roll Tide!”
Memorial Services are entrusted to Collier-Butler Funeral Home on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 2:00pm in the chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Frank’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
