

Funeral service will be 12:30 pm, Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Collier-Butler Funeral Home for Marion Frank Mayfield, 80, of Gadsden. Pastor Jerry Abbett and Rev. Jenny Gallman will officiate service. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 11 am until the time of the service. Burial will be a Whiton Cemetery in Dekalb County. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Service directing.
Mr. Mayfield graduated from Geraldine High School, received his undergraduate degree from Jacksonville State University and his graduate degrees from the University of Alabama. He was a member of Bellevue United Methodist Church, a former Sunday school teacher, historian, usher, and a member of the Bellevues. He began his 38-year teaching career at Disque Middle School and retired in 1992 from Gadsden State Community College where he loved teaching history. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in his favorite European city, Salzburg, Austria. He loved to travel and made many trips to Europe as well as most of the states in America.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hosea and Dallas Mayfield, his brother Jack Mayfield, and his beloved dog Caesar.
He is survived by his wife Jonola (Totsye), his children; Steve (Deidra) Arrington Richmond, Virginia, Luanne (Richard) Johnson Gadsden Alabama, Jan (Bo) Kirkpatrick Birmingham, Alabama, grandchildren; Will and Ansley Kirkpatrick, brothers; Bill (Bonnie) Mayfield and Jimmy (Genelle) Mayfield, and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jay Moore, Kris Bishop, Paul Mayfield, Roger Mayfield, Andrew Norris, Bobby Mayfield, Bo Kirkpatrick, and Richard Johnson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bellevue United Methodist Church.
