

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Anne Barnes Holcomb of Oxford, Ga., will be at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2014, at Collier-Butler Chapel. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Church Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.Mary Anne was born on July 8, 1951, in Detroit, Mich., and grew up in Gadsden, Ala. During her life, she lived with her husband and family in Atlanta, Ga., Somerville, N..J, Hixson, Tenn., and for 18 years in Kemah, Texas, before retiring to Oxford, Ga., to be near her daughter's family. Mary Anne worked as a medical secretary at various hospitals around the country, including Erlanger in Chattanooga, UTMB Galveston, MD Anderson in Houston, Squibb-Novo in Princeton, N.J., and Emory in Atlanta. Mary Anne was very politically active and, during the family's 18 years in Kemah, Texas, (Galveston Co.) she served on the Kemah City Council and was a key player in developing the Kemah Boardwalk entertainment district. Mary Anne was active in Eastern Star, loved gardening and cooking and had recently returned from a celebrity cruise with Paula Deen.She is survived by her daughter, Monica Holcomb Masters and husband, James Edward Masters; son, Kenneth Curtis Holcomb and wife, Sharon Onggao Holcomb; grandchildren, Christine Elizabeth Masters, Vincent Matthew Holcomb and Aria Rose Holcomb; brother, Stanley Paul Clark and wife, Linda Sue Clark; sister, Edna Pauline Barnes; in-laws, Robert Stevens and Mildred Holcomb Stevens; sisters-in-law, Debra Elaine Holcomb Lowe and husband, Wayne Lowe, Diana Holcomb Bryant, Laura Holcomb Stevens; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:30 at the funeral home prior to the service Sunday.
